What Will You Need
- An empty space in the breaker box for a 30-amp, single-pole breaker.
- An unopened and fresh new 30-amp single-pole circuit breaker.
- Sufficient lengths of UF-rated 10-2 copper wire to connect the circuit breaker panel of the RV to the pedestal. If the length of your route exceeds 150 feet, you will need to upgrade to 8-2 copper wire.
- NEMA TT-30R 30 amp outlet, such as found in a waterproof RV pedestal or a flush mount outlet.
- One-inch diameter conduit for the wire anywhere that it can’t be buried at least 24 inches deep, as required by code.
- There must be a conduit with a one-inch inside diameter wherever the wire cannot be buried at least 24 inches deep.
- You will also need basic electrical tools like A 30 amp RV plug, screwdriver, drill, drill bit (1/2 inch or larger), Wire strippers, pair of pliers, wire crimper, electrical tape etc.
How to Install a 30 Amp RV Plug at Home

- Turn off the Power of Breaker
First, you’ll need to find the circuit breaker box in your home. Once you’ve located it, turn off the power to the circuit that you’ll be working on.
- Remove the Cover of the Outlet
Then, take your screwdriver and remove the cover of the circuit breaker box. After that, you’ll see two wires coming from the outlet. One wire is the black hot wire, and the other is the white neutral wire.
- Locate the Working Breaker
After the first step, you need to locate the circuit breaker that corresponds to the circuit you’re working on. Once you’ve found it, use your drill to make a hole in the center of the breaker. Be careful not to drill too deeply, as you don’t want to damage the breaker.
- Insert Wire Strippers
After you’ve made the hole, insert the tip of the wire strippers into the hole and strip away about 3 inches of the insulation. Then, take your 30 amp RV plug and insert the stripped end of the wire into the plug. Make sure that the wire is fully inserted and that the connection is tight.
- Connect Wires to 30 Amp RV Plug
